An Pacáiste Tacaíochta Teaghlaigh Irish for Parents of Under 5’s
The Pacáiste Tacaíochta Teaghlaigh is available to families who have a child/children under 5 years of age.
A special pacáiste will be sent out to each family in the dialect which they practice at home, the Munster dialect, the Ulster dialect or the Connacht dialect. A CD, a reference book and appropriate reading books will be sent to the families applying for the pacáiste as well as other suitable information.
Once the parents register for the pacáiste by filling out the appropriate form, they are also given the option to join our contact list and receive our newsletter as well as other useful information from Tuismitheoirí na Gaeltachta. We’ll share information continually about relevant information for example newly published Irish language books. Useful information will also be sent by email on request.

Virtual School Tours for all Pre-schools and Primary Schools in Clare
This year, more than anytime, has made transition supports more important than ever. As well as designing the tours the subgroup has been hard at work the last number of weeks putting together an infographic for parents to encourage them to start the chat with their child about school return (see PDF HERE).
A generic primary school tour was also built using 3D modeling and animation. This “imagination” CYPSE (Children’s and Young People’s Services Committee) school is suitable for all young children transitioning to primary school and will be circulated to all schools in Clare as well as pre-schools.

Bridge Back to School
Bridge Back to School – An Autism-Friendly Learning Resource for Summer 2020, launched by SuperValu and autism charity AsIAm, was developed with Mary Immaculate College. A useful booklet to help prepare for the return to school for parent and child.
AsIAm CEO Adam Harris says returning to school after a long absence will be challenging for all children, but particularly for those on the autism spectrum. “For some children, routine and structure in their day are really important. Over the past months, we’ve seen the complete removal of that.
“And coinciding with this, we’ve seen a loss of support for children who relied on additional teaching-time, SNA input and maybe some professional home support. It has all taken a toll,” says Harris, adding that compounding the challenge is the fact that kids will return to school – but not as they know it.

Children’s Books Ireland have produced an activity book with An Post called the ImagineNation playbook. It’s a 24 page A4 activity book, with pages to colour in, different suggested activities to do like animal yoga, map drawing, code breaking, creative writing prompts etc. – fun and creative activities for children away from school.

Leaving Cert 2021: Everything you need to know about the candidate portal
The candidate portal for the 2021 Leaving Certificate opens today (10/03/2021) at 12 noon for registration.
Over the next seven days, students have the option to indicate whether they wish to sit the Leaving Certificate Examinations or receive SEC Accredited Grades, or both.
All students who are entered for the 2021 Leaving Certificate must create an account on the candidate self-service portal, to register for examinations and/or SEC Accredited Grades.
School-going and external students will be required to confirm their choice for each subject, and confirm their subjects and levels.
The portal is open from 12 noon today and will close on Tuesday 16 March at 6pm on the government website.

AsIAm CEO Adam Harris says returning to school after a long absence will be challenging for all children, but particularly for those on the autism spectrum. “For some children, routine and structure in their day are really important. Over the past months, we’ve seen the complete removal of that.
“And coinciding with this, we’ve seen a loss of support for children who relied on additional teaching-time, SNA input and maybe some professional home support. It has all taken a toll,” says Harris, adding that compounding the challenge is the fact that kids will return to school – but not as they know it.

Microsoft delivers online home schooling classes
Microsoft Ireland is rolling out thrice weekly online classes to allow students mix digital learning with fun during the schools’ shutdown. Participants will have opportunities to programme their very own piece of music, design their own retro game or be introduced to the world of coding through Minecraft.
The at-home digital learning experience is aimed at 6-16 year-olds, but all students can get involved and parents and teachers are expected to join in the fun.
A different session will be hosted at 1pm on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays, starting tomorrow, April 1.
